What Is The In-Home Services Program?

As an Area Agency on Aging, NWICA contracts with a variety of in-home service agencies to provide in-home services to the disabled and elderly to assist with maintaining independence in their homes or communities. Services under this program are provided in Jasper, Lake, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Starke Counties.

Which In-Home Services Programs Do You Offer?

We offer a number of in-home service programs. Each program has different eligibility requirements. They are Medicaid Waiver, SSBG, CHOICE, and Title III.

What Is The Medicaid Waiver Program?

The Medicaid Waiver Program makes funds available to assist older and disabled Americans who have Medicaid or who are Medicaid eligible to remain in their home with adequate in-home assistance.

What is the SSBG Program?

Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) is targeted toward older adults (60 years of age and older) whose income is below poverty. Eligibility for this program includes the following:
  • 60 years of age and older;
  • Established Indiana residency;
  • Documented determination of service needed; AND
  • Below 150% of poverty level.

What is the CHOICE Program?

CHOICE stands for Community and Home Options to Institutionalized Care for the Elderly and Disabled. This program provides services for people who have a demonstrated need for assistance. It also pays for medically necessary services. There is no financial eligibility program requirement, however, there may be a cost share for services received. You are eligible for this program if you:
  • Are a resident of Indiana;
  • Are at least 60 years of age or disabled, AND;
  • Have an impairment that places you at risk of losing your independence

What is the Title III Program?

Title III gives funds to the State and Area Agencies on Aging to advocate for the elderly and coordinate services for them. Any person 60 years or older is eligible for Title III program services.
