The Older Americans Act makes funds available to assist older and disabled Americans to receive a nutritious meal on a daily basis. Northwest Indiana Community Action Corporation is the designated agency in Northwest Indiana for administering the nationwide nutrition program under the Older Americans Act. These services are provided in the following counties: Jasper, Lake, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, and Starke Counties.
All of the meals contain the recommended dietary allowance per the Food and Drug Administration.
You are eligible to receive services if you meet one of the
following criteria:
- Any person 60 years or older;
- Any person whose spouse is 60 or older; OR
- A disabled dependent child of someone over 60 attending the nutrition site.
Is There A Charge For The Program?
Although there is no charge for the program, voluntary contributions are accepted.
What Types Of Activities Are Offered At The Sites?
Some examples of activities are games, bingo, dancing, arts and crafts, sing-a-longs and exercise. Health screenings and preventative health information are also available at the sites.
What If I cannot Go To Senior Site For A Meal?
Some older adults are in a situation where they cannot leave their home because of health problems. We also provide service to deliver homebound meals to these individuals. These meals also contain the recommended dietary allowance per the Food and Drug Administration. Please feel free to contact us regarding homebound meals.
