What Is The Weatherization Assistance Program?

The Weatherization Program is a federally funded program designed to reduce the energy consumption of low-income families. The goal is to make homes safe, comfortable, and energy efficient while saving the occupant money. The program serves renters or homeowners, whether they live in mobile homes, traditional single-family homes, or apartments. Priority is generally given to households with elderly or disabled residents and those with children under 5 years. Services under this program are provided in Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter Counties.

Who Is Eligible For The Weatherization Assistance Program?

• Any household income at or below 125% of federal poverty guidelines (Exact dollar amount changes each year based on federal government guidelines);
• Any household with a TANF recipient during the 12 months prior to applying;
• Any household with an SSI recipient during the 12 months prior to applying; OR
• Any household eligible for The Low-Income Housing Energy Assistance Program.

Weatherization services include the following:

• Attic, wall and foundation insulation
• Air infiltration testing and sealing
• Water Heater replacement (home owners only)
• Cooking Stove Replacement (homeowners only)
• Refrigerator Replacement (homeowners only)
• Client Education Program
• Furnace clean and tunes
• Furnace safety checks
• Furnace replacement (home owners only)
• House inspections
