Northwest Indiana Community Action Corporation (NWICA) is the largest combined Area Agency on Aging and Community Action Agency in Indiana. We help to eliminate barriers that make life difficult. We offer a variety of services to support people with experiencing financial hardship, older adults, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and Medicaid recipients.
We help struggling individuals and families in Northwest Indiana to become independent and advocate for those who can't.
How can we help?

Our Care Managers arrange services and support for older adults, individuals with disabilities and their caregivers based on individual needs, goals, and resources.
Programs designed to promote healthy aging and the maintenance of optimal physical, mental, and social well-being for older adults.
Give the gift of companionship! Volunteer to be a Senior Companion or a Foster Grandparent, become a host site or school, or refer a senior for services.
Programs to help you with financial skills. From filing taxes, to budgeting and saving, our programs can help improve your financial wellbeing.
Our Ombudsman promotes and protects legally guaranteed rights for nursing facility residents. The Ombudsman is an advocate for residents.
Information, support, and resources to assist family caregivers with their concerns related to caregiving.
The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) is professionally staffed to assist seniors and persons with disabilities in navigating systems and choices for care.
The local and trusted Resource Connections Call Center provides information & referrals based on caller’s needs. SHIP counselors provide reliable and accurate answers to Medicare questions.
Broadway Lofts is open at 701 Broadway in Gary, Indiana. Each spacious floor plan includes modern amenities you would expect to find in a luxury home, at rental rates that are affordable!
The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) offers eligible clients a credit on their heating and cooling expenses and provides clients with the opportunity to learn about energy conservation.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) provides rental assistance to eligible families and guarantees monthly payments to owners.
Our services include both home-delivery and congregate site options, providing roughly 300,000 meals each year to 4,000 individuals.
Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children (WIC) improves access to nutritious foods and promotes healthy eating and lifestyles for pregnant women, infants, and children up to age 5.
NWICA’s Lake County Weatherization Program helps families reduce overall household energy use through energy efficiency upgrades that help them live in a warm, safe, and healthy home while using less energy- Weatherization Works!
