CALL FOR ACES CHAMPION AWARD NOMINATIONS
It’s time to recognize individuals in our communities for their achievements in preventing and resolving the impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences! Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) is a term used to describe extremely stressful events or circumstances that overwhelm a child’s nervous system. These experiences correlate to an increased risk of developing of chronic diseases, mental health issues, difficulties with social functioning, and early death. Research demonstrates that safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments have the power to protect children from the effects of these experiences. These protective relationships and environments may occur inside or outside the child’s home, and may occur long after the child has been out of the adverse situation.
Northwest Indiana Community Action is seeking nominations for our 2023 ACEs Champion Awards.
Award recipients will be honored at the 5th Annual Reimagine Conference to be held in Valparaiso, Indiana on October 12 & 13, 2023.
Nominations require a candidate’s name, contact information, biographical information, and qualifications for the award and/or history of service related to ACEs.
ACEs Champion Award
NWICA established the Community Action ACEs Champion Award to honor individuals and organizations that are working to address Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in Northwest Indiana. These individuals have shown their commitment to this cause by working diligently to strengthen Northwest Indiana’s resilience. ACEs Champions are engaged in the work of creating safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments either directly or indirectly. ACEs Champions may be preventing adverse experiences from occurring, they may be helping children process traumatic events so that they don’t suffer long term effects, or they may be helping people of any age heal from the impacts of adverse experiences.
