The NWICA Advisory Committee for Older Adult Programs advises our Board of Directors, providing information and recommendations on issues facing older adults and the organizations that serve them.
To assist NWICA in fulfilling its mission of Helping people to be independent and advocating for those who can’t, Committee members provide feedback on such issues as healthcare, transportation and housing needs; help identify resources and suggest ideas for improvement in services; assist with public hearings, focus groups, and other agency activities; and suggest ways that the agency can best serve seniors and persons with disabilities in Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, and Starke Counties. The Committee advises on programs operated by the Area 1 Agency on Aging and the AmeriCorps Senior programs.
The Advisory Council is comprised of individuals and representatives of community organizations who help to enhance the leadership role of the Area Agency on Aging in developing community-based systems of services. Membership categories include: persons over the age of sixty years who are participants or potential participants in programs; family caregivers; elected officials or their designees; health care providers; Veteran service providers; nutrition project representatives; community representatives from each county in our service area; a senior employment or senior volunteer program representative; resource persons from other agencies and members of the general public.
