Housing Choice Voucher Program
The housing choice voucher program assists low-income families, the elderly, and those living with disabilities to afford decent, safe, and quality housing.
Participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses and apartments. They are not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects. We administer vouchers in Lake, LaPorte, Porter, Jasper, Newton, Starke and Pulaski Counties.
How it works: A family that is issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit where the owner agrees to rent under the program. This unit may include where a participant lives today!
We make it easy! NWICA pays the housing subsidy to the landlord directly on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program waitlist is now closed (updated 12/15/22).
